We loved it, but there is the one really scary part that our 5 year old son was scared of, and our 8 year old daughter was crying at the end when Andy left. We all still loved it in spite of these parts, but maybe it is a little more intense than the first 2.
We watched it in 3D to get the full experience, but I'm not sold. 3D is darker, and for very long stretches you don't notice it at all. If I see it again (a distinct possibility) I'll definitely save money and go to the 2D version.
