The story was solid if not unpredictable, but story is not really why someone goes to see Avatar.
The 3-D animation was absolutely ground-breaking. A seamless amalgamation of real actors with gorgeous CG backdrops, coupled with the most realistic CG humanoids I've ever seen on the screen, and just enough 3-D gimmicks to make it fun left me very happy I'd spent my money.
