This movie reminded me that in spite of Tom Cruise's public relations problems, the talent that brought him to the big screen has not gone away. He and Diaz have excellent on-screen chemistry and this film is an enjoyable romp that doesn't take itself too seriously. Like most action movies, you need to suspend your disbelief for a couple hours and just enjoy the ride. I'm not typically an action movie fan but this one made me smile and was a nice escape from the summer heat.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

In spite of the horrible reviews this has been getting, a friend and I figured, "what the hell, it still has to be fun and it's not like we're expected brilliant cinema anyway..." But I spent most of the movie either cringing or rolling my eyes. Compared to the first movie, which had a better-than-expected storyline and was full of strong performances and a fairly believable plot, this is full of weak performances, tired jokes and a simply ridiculous plotline. The scenes in the desert were so laughable to me... of course, who DOESN'T want to get dressed up in designer fashions, don 5-inch spiked heels and walk through the Arabian Desert? Some of the scenes were so poorly performed I wondered where the director was and why a couple more takes weren't ordered. Overall it seems as desperate of a film as its characters (Samantha especially).
Visually, it is of course beautiful. And the fashion is as always the main character. But for me this was a ridiculous waste of time & money--not just mine, but the time & money spent to film it. Too bad. Of course people will go see it in droves anyway. But that's 2+ hours of my life I'll never get back.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
