firstly, it just wasn't funny this time. sight gags and puns, no brilliant dialogue like i count on from MPK. secondly, no real storyline, it was just a pile of fluff. the best thing about the show, and the first movie in particular, was that they explored the complexity of people and issues really deeply and pretty insightfully. this one had the potential to do that, but it never really went there. taking all the ladies away from their problems and the male characters we love merely watered it down and made me long for new york. i was worried from the time i realized this thing was taking place in the middle east. race has never been something SATC handled well, and really, they should have stayed in new york. it's not that it is "racist" per se, it is just full of sweeping generalizations based on stereotypes, exotification of foreign culture, and western perspectives of things these privileged folks probably aren't very educated about. and having miranda narrate the history of the middle eastern culture from a guidebook didn't make it more palatable. it was really bad. like bridget jones 2. like the thai prison. exactly like that. as a die hard SATC fan, i hope they make another one as thoughtful and profound as the first one was so i can wash the taste of #2 out of my mouth. for now, i will just pop in some season 2. :)
