Well - too bad for Alexander Skarsgard that 1 of his 1st movies outta the gate is such a flop. I had such high hopes. I went on opening night just b/c i wanted the movie to get good #'s (for AS). I'm a huge AS fan and think he's a superior, true artist. not just a glam actor. I pretty much agree with everything that's been said here. I didn't find the movie "boring." Nor did i find the "horrific rape scene" horrific. I feel it was tastefully handled by the director & a very clear portrayal by Skarsgard that "Charlie" was delusional & disturbed. The acting clearly conveyed Charlie felt there was still something there btwn them & let's face it, Amy (Bosworth) had been taunting him all the way up to that scene. The rest of what ensued was left to the viewers imagination & NOT shown. I'm not condoning the action & felt Charlie shoulda stopped his boy.. but it's a bit more complicated than that. Beyond that, Woods character is well played (but Woods always plays the same damn role so he should have it down by now). And i was sooooo BORED w/Kate Bosworth walking around mostly naked. I think there were 1 or 2 scenes where they had her in underwear & clothes. Srsly, Kate.... u ain't got nothin worth showing. Really. but, i can see some redeeming qualities to her acting & have no idea whatsoever what Skarsgard initially saw in her. Just glad he's moved on.
Honestly, from the trailers & ads I really wasn't all that interested in seeing S&TC2 but a friend was having a party & i thought it would be fun. I was pleasantly surprised. I laughed & was drawn in to the movie more than I expected. There was well-balanced screen time w/the various characters. What turned the corner for me between a 2 star rating vs. 4 star was a modern feminist theme commentary about women in 3rd world countries. Samantha's character is intentionally brazen as a social juxtaposition to the accepted repression in Dubai. Enjoyable entertainment not to be taken too seriously. I agree that this should be the last in the series. Let's go out with lingering memories not predictably overstated.
