Mental illness is a scary thing to all as is mortality. We tend to avoid the subjects when possible. Silver Linings finds a way to humanize the subject of mental illness in a way that enables viewers to experience the mania experienced by people who suffer from bipolar and compulsive/obsessive disorders. The writing, directing and, most importantly, the acting in Silver Linings is stellar and eye-opening. Bravo to all involved in making this movie.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is a wonderful movie about one of the most revered American leaders of all time. History's two-dimensional view of President Lincoln is replaced with a revealing expose. Lincoln's deep sensitivity and thoughtfulness is juxtaposed against a sense of humor that helped him bear the enormous burden of leading the Union during a Civil War that cost over 500,000 lives. President Lincoln's skillful ability to work within the political process, timing the end of the Civil War with the passage of the 14th amendment which abolished slavery, is the main focus of the story. Daniel-Day Lewis' portrayal of Lincoln is the essence of the movie and will likely bring him an Oscar. Sally Field's performance was solid but her delivery reminded us of Mrs. Doubtfire. Tommy Lee Jones was his usual irascible self, playing a somewhat irreverent Benjamin Franklin type character. The movie is a good 20-30 minutes too long but worth the trip.
Pros great story, great actors
Cons slow, too long
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I was not a big fan of Alien but rather a Dune fan. The special effects in Prometheus are awesome. The story line follows a familiar mankind seeks his roots pattern. I'm not into blood and guts but thought the rest of the movie was well done.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Not Spielberg's best

The movie provides a series of vignettes about a thoroughbred's being forced into hard labor on a farm and then into war, becoming part of the lives of different people along the way. The story is somewhat choppy and the scenery looks like it was shot almost entirely in a movie studio. John Williams' score was far from his best. Yet, it is a sentimental trip that most will embrace at a time when these types of stories are not in great abundance.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

True Grit Holds Its Own

Jeff Bridges provided one of his best performances to date playing opposite a sharp tongued, feisty and surprisingly strong performance by Hailee Steinfeld as a fourteen year old daughter seeking to avenge her father's murder. Matt Damon was miss-cast as the Texas ranger and Josh Brolin's role, as written, was pathetic (if that's what they were aiming for, they accomplished the task). Cinematography and sets captured the Southwest. Overall, a good movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
