I went into this thinking it would be a well thought out remake of the original book or movie but it is not. No Mars, no Alien city, no reason to cheer - the central bad guy is "the Fall" which is essentially an elevator through the center of the earth connecting England and The Colony, which looks a lot like Hong Kong. For some reason, it is always raining in the Colony.
It takes 17 minutes to travel between the two. England is the bad guy, The Colony is the good guy, the Fall is how they get between the two because the rest of the earth is a wasteland. (The worst part of the movie is when the good guys get out of The Fall and climb up it in the middle of the earth. OMG are all of us really that stupid?) The Recall story is the same - a double agent who turns - but other than that don't thnk it is anything like the book or original movie, - it's just another glamour shot.
Pros great actors, beautiful
Cons dumb story, lacking the spirit of the original book

I dont' know if they were limited by the cheesy script or what, but this was pretty disappointing and predictable, even with all the plot twists.
The plot was not well paced, and the special effects have all been done before. The aliens were slimy ripoffs from other movies. There were lots of shots to appreciate Daniel Craig's body if you are into that.
It was just not great like it should have been - but it was different and had a bunch of plot twists so I would still recommend watching it. Just don't get your hopes up.

I am still wondering, what was the point? To see JT dry humping Diaz? Gross! For Diaz to show she can curse with the best of them? The "I'm going to suck your di*^k like I'm mad at it" comment did make me laugh, but the rest of the movie was pretty much just not funny. Just vulgar, stupid and disappointing. Diaz was totally unsympathetic, Timberlake was an idiotic, self centered dork. Segel was his regular adorable character, just not as confused as usual. Don't bother.

The special effects are good. The story is not. If you are following the RE storyline and looking forward to the clones then this movie is not going to make you happy.
If you just want to see people and monster's heads explode in 3D then you will love it.

This movie is beautiful so I gave it three stars. I was disappointed - I expected the beauty but thought the story would be better. The story seemed to be a combination of older movies - Dances with Wolves and Return of the Jedi come to mind. Peaceful (or) beautiful (or) spiritual tribe attacked by technologically advanced bad guys. The actual avatar story line is not pursued in a satisfying way, I expected a little more SciFi. It is soooo predictable.
