After seeing a couple of real duds this holiday season, it was really nice to finally see a film of this caliper. Firth and Rush are both wonderful, and you quickly become emotionally involved with both of their characters, and enjoy seeing their friendship develop and grow. The movie theatre audience applauded when the film was over, and rightfully so! Always a good sign that everyone there truly enjoyed the movie!
I was really excited to see this movie, and while I was watching it, I did enjoy parts of it. Russell Crowe is good, as always. But, the movie drags a bit, and there just wasn't much chemistry between Crowe and Blanchett. Her ever deeping chain smoker's voice really started to bug me. Plus, they both just seem too old to play a young Robin Hood and Marrian. Afterwards, the more we thought about the movie and talked about how much they changed the story and main characters from the Robin Hood book, we all came to the conclusion that this movie was sort of a dud. I'd still see it, but maybe lower your expectations a bit. Maybe you'll end up enjoying it more that way. If you are a lover of the book, and historical facts, then skip it, and save yourself the anguish.
