I don't know what it is with Pixar, they're trying to hard perhaps, in my opinion at least. In their efforts to prove how they can jerk at heartstrings, their movies of late, UP, Wall-E, and now Toy Story 3 have lacked what makes Pixar movies fun; the laughs, the subtle jokes for parents, and most of all the feel good factor.
*Spoilers*
In Wall-e they build an entire movie around a sad, lonely robot, who just wants companionship. In UP! We watch a couple grow old together, and then be ripped apart by death...in the first 10 minutes. In TS3, we watch Woody's heart break over Andy leaving for college, he must choose between his boy and his friends, even his friends are nearly split among themselves.
There are the occasional laughs of course, but it doesn't feel good. I didn't walk out of the theater feeling...wow...what a great movie. Cars, the Incredibles. They had it. TS1-2, definitely had it.
TS3 lacks it. Save your money, watch the DVD.
I know I know, i'm the ONE person in America who didn't like it. Take it with a grain.
