Even as a comic book fan, I've never been a huge comic book movie fan. Most either try to go too far from the books and ruin the story and feel of the character, or stay extremely close to the comic, too close really, and don't bother adapting anything to work with the strengths of movies, making for a good story with horrible presentation. Iron Man 2 takes the approach of focusing on making it an entertaining movie before focusing on the series canon and comic book connections, but unlike most, it doesn't ignore them altogether. Watching Stark's descent into raging alcoholism manages to be both plot relevant and entertaining. What most reviewers fail to understand is that things like that that develop the characters and the Marvel world are the focus of the movie, not just the villain, and they do a wonderful job setting up for an Avengers movie. In plot terms, this movie is the rising action of the series, but a lot of people are expecting the climax, which this definitely isn't. But if you don't go in expecting that, you'll have a wonderful time.
