The libretto of The Enchanted Island was very clever and very singable in English. One could really understand it, though the surcaps were nice anyway. The music was a pastiche of several composers and worked quite well.
The visuals--scenery and costumes--were sumptuous in a way, though not to my taste.
The cast was wonderful with beautiful voices and sung magnificently.
All in all a fine almost four-hours of good fun.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Having just seen this beautifully sung, acted, and played HD performance of Hamlet, it is hard to understand why it is so seldom produced. Long though it is, almost every moment is a treasure with rich rewards of pleasure. Though the story is so familiar, the libretto seldom uses Shakespeare's words, which, nevertheless is well-suited to the tale. This opera might be one that would change a person's whole feeling about opera. It was a wonderful almost four hours.
