I am a Trekkie. I have have watched all the different series and movies. Some are better than others. The new motion picture series with the altered timeline has so many possibilities using well known characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed their version of this character's story (trying not to spoil). There was nonstop action, character interaction, amazing visual effects and old favorites with a twist. I highly recommend this movie for old or new Star Trek fans.

good but can be scary for younger kids

My boys are 7 and 4. Both loved the movie, but some parts scared the 4 year old. The effects were a bonus. I would recommend spending the extra $ for 3D.
The scary factor got 4 instead of 5 stars, otherwise, kids loved it.
