Visually, a stunning movie. As a contination of the 'Alice in Wonderland' story, it was what it was: a girl's coming of age story with the realization that one does not have to be what everyone expects and that you can chose to be who you want to be.
Depp was good, but I've seen him do better. Anne Hathaway's body language was annoying and not effective. The people from the White Queen's court were also visually unappealing. The people from the Red Queen's court were actually more interesting.
Mia Wasikowska was very good.
Other reviews I've seen say Helena Bonham Carter stole the scenes she was in and while I agree she was very good, she was very good at imitating the woman who played Queen Elizabeth in the Second Blackadder Series. But it was very obviously a copy.
Costuming was wonderful. The BEST part of the movie is when Depp recites the Jabberwokky using the Sweeny Todd voice. I wouldn't mind a recording of him doing just that.
As a Tim Burton fan, not his greatest film but possibly his most beautiful film. As for Depp, it seemed like he was doing a very good job at doing what was asked of him, but it was as if they were not pushing him to be better.
