If you have read the books and are fanatic about Harry Potter, this is a Must See. The saga is coming to an end in a dramatic and thrilling manner. But make no mistake, the darkness and depression of war, death, horror and struggle abound herein. The movie is long, only to tell part one and set up the finale. Likeable, long-term characters die, throughout this chapter.
The use of horror dominates this passage, but the special effects for that function are exceptional. I was fully entertained by the movie, never feeling it was long, boring, or repetitive. The special effects were totally "natural" in that you don't see them as theatrical effects. Instead, you are amazed that such nightmares could be captured and replayed before you.
I'm NOT a reader of the books. I have seen all the movies, but continue to be confused by the names, places, and complex story. This version does little to help me in that regard. I end up with lots of questions about details that my HP friends have to help explain. But this episode is one of my favorites so far. Complex and Dark, yes, but thrilling and brilliantly produced and wanting to see more, definitely.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Amazing what can be done with modern graphics. Alice's world felt more than a dream, it appeared much like I remembered feeling when the stories were first read to me. Everything was familiar, but strange, different and surprising. Both IMAX and 3D were helpful in bringing you into the realm and the wonder of it all.
The tale was NOT "Alice in Wonderland", but a clever variation on the story that made it even better. It was as if Alice had been there, before, ... and so had you, but not such you could remember it, exactly. Familiar, yet unknown.
The actual "story" is very clever in it's introduction and unfolding, but then lacked originality in moving to completion. It became predictable and a normal, logical progression, lacking the flair of the beginning and of the books, as well. The ending is sweet and satisfying.
I will enjoy watching the film, again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
