Considering the hype that Christopher Nolan's pedigree (Memento, Dark Knight and The Prestige), he had a lot to live up to with the hype machine that was created for Inception and he definitely met my expectations.
In what's essentially a heist movie in dreams, Leonardo DiCaprio leads a team that attempts to plant an idea in the head of a powerful corporate executive. Complicating an already impossibly difficult task is the existence of DiCaprio's wife in his subconscious, who
There's a certain amount of exposition that necessarily occurs to acquaint the audience with the rules of the dreamworld and it requires the kind of attention that you wouldn't normally give to a film like "Hot Tub Time Machine." That said, once you grasp the concepts being thrown at you, you'll better enjoy the metaphorical craziness that ensues.
DiCaprio is in fine form and the rest of the cast, notably Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard, are excellent.
This film is definitely Nolan's most personal work and features implied homages to his favorite movies (like "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "On Her Majesty's Secret Service") and filmmakers such as Ridley Scott, Michael Mann and Alfred Hitchcock.

You get exactly what you expect with this film, like the lovable, unlikely dork who gets the almost-perfect girl and his archetypal best friends, but what's special about it is it's heart. The filmmakers make you understand how such an improbable thing can happen. Also nice is the restraint in this movie that's rarely demonstrated in other films of this genre. It doesn't go to unnecessary lengths to make a joke and its characters aren't completely one-note caricatures. Awesome film!
