Gritty, compelling, and nuanced

Excellent story, compelling cinematography, glued together with superb acting. Parallel stories of Hawke's flawed, pathetic drug detective, Gere's flawed, apathetic patrol officer, and Cheadle's flawed but sensitive undercover officer painted with the grittiness of New York streets and and urban dialog draws the viewer into the story,
A must see of this genre!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
