So Much Potential; So Disappointing

Depp’s & Carter’s make-up is superb. Each has brilliant moments. But the production quality & IMAX 3-D are terrible. All visuals are muted & dark, except the garish-faced White Queen's washed-out kingdom -- where they're too muted & light! In both cases, lack of contrast makes the 3-D understated & unimpressive. “Alice” 3-D does not begin to compare with Avatar’s 3-D. Story details were overlooked. I wanted a great deal more of the hookah smoking Absolom. I liked their 'armored quality,' but the Red army doesn't 'look like' a deck of playing cards with recognizable suits & values. Phrases like "I'm late, I'm late, I'm late for a very important date..." have been omitted. The tea party itself, like the movie, was a HUGE disappointment.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
