While I understood before seeing the movie that it would be far different from the original, I hoped that the film would capture the pathless wandering that led Alice to these magnificent characters in the first place. Instead, I saw a typical hero movie in dressed in Wonderland costume. Though I must say, it was well-dressed. Burton's visual mastery was obvious. The movie grabbed randomly at pieces of Carroll's originals and twisted the references to the point that the outcome was ridiculous, and not in the way that Carroll intended.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
