Definitely worth seeing, but not necessarily in 3D. I am not a fan of 3D, but i went because i read you should see this in 3D. The effects are good if you like 3D, but i would save my money and eyes for the 2D version. As far as content, this is a children's movie, not an adult's. I heard that some (overprotective, in my opinion) parents didn't think it was appropriate for their children, but the film is told from a child's POV in a children's movie genre.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Since I'm reviewing the *movie* I have to give it 4 stars instead of 5 merely for the video production. Some of the side shots looked HD while the front shots didn't; that is to say the quality wasn't consistent and was sometimes disappointing. Nonetheless, this is an outstanding production with great performances by all cast members, billed or not. I have seen several live and filmed performances of this, including the documentary of the making of the original cast album and the one starring Raúl Esparza, and this was on par with them. If you love musical theater, I see no reason why you will not love this show-- even on screen. And remember-- you get what you pay for. Think how much more you would spend to see it live.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Apocalyptic Animated Film Noir Adventure

A friend told me it was "weird," but I found this movie to be fantastical, otherworldly, and riveting. Throughout the film, the action kept me guessing what was next and the imagery kept me guessing at the message. The characters were distinct and endearing, though some were frightening. This dystopian cautionary tale reminded me of others like Metropolis and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Comparisons to Coraline are understandable, since both movies are about stitchpunk dolls imbued with life, but the themes and plots of the two are quite different. Though disturbing, the movie is by no means disheartening. If you liked the touching Wall-E and the scary Coraline, you just might love 9.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
