Important pieces from book were missing

All around a good movie, great special effects, but there were some pieces from the book that were missing. For example, how did Luke get the lightening bolt in the first place? Just a few minutes at the beginning of the movie would have answered this. I know the director/screenwriters do this to make the story line more consistent, however those who know and have read the book will see some glaring omissions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
