Opera Encore Beats a Hollywood Film

Don Carlo has all the intrigue, love, lust, suspense, action, that a Hollywood film would offer, but better by a long shot. Because the music and voices are so exquisite, the five hours required to sit through this opera is well worth the time. From the opening interview to the wonderful music, story and voices, the time goes by rapidly. Verdi is to be applauded for understanding the period in which the opera is set and the myriad influences at play. I found the sets, costuming and story line riveting. I have loved going to the Met Encore performances and will continue to enjoy these superb productions.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I hadn't read any reviews of this film, however was told by several friends that it was a must see. And indeed, this is a compassionate poignant film about building friendship out of pain and struggle. The main theme is the stuttering of the to be King of England, and in the process of finding relief, finds friendship and compassion with his speech therapist. He also uncovers the hurt and struggle in his relationship with his father and brother and overcomes the impact of their inability to accept him as he is. Many layers and superb acting make this a must see film.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent Opera

While I volunteer for the San Francisco Opera and enjoy live performance, I was delighted with the Met Opera production of Don Pasquale that I saw at Emery Bay theater in Emeryville, CA. We went on a Wednesday evening for the encore performance. The opera was delightful, funny and the music - gorgeous. We enjoyed every minute of the music and singers, the interviews and watching how the sets get moved around. Our theater has stadium seating which allows us to see easily, and the air temperature was monitored for the duration of the event allowing us a comfortable environment. A definite yes and we will continue to attend these fabulous productions close to home.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Toy Story 3 is an engaging, delightful and heartfelt emotional tale that takes us back to our childhood and the toys we had. More, it is a story of relationships: love, emotional support, care, and community. I recommend this movie to adults and children all of whom would benefit from this message. Tell your friends - it is definitely worth seeing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent Production

The first time the Met has staged this opera in over 100 years, and what a production it is. The voices were spectacular and the minimalist scenery added to the suspense - even though we know the outcomes. Here we have a dramatic presentation coupled with incredible acting skill and musical talent that engaged me emotionally and intellectually. I have been attending the Met Live in theaters for the fourth time and can say each one is a treat to see.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
