A revelation.Musically and dramatically, it's a tour de force, proving again that Verdi epitomizes music as drama. The cast was stellar. Domingo's strong baritone is the centerpiece, Giordano's tenor soared particularly in the second half of the opera, Piezonka is radiant in every way, James Morris still has it, and all the minor roles were strong. Kudos to Renee Fleming for her wonderful interviews of the principals, to the between act traversals of backstage happenings, and to the larger than life production. I can't say enough about the job Fleming did making the interviews so conversational while eliciting so much fascinating information from the singers. A bonus was her interview with the always charming Kiri Te Kanawa.
