You dont need to be a Trekkie to love this movie..

... it stands very well on its own. If you are a fan of sci-fi films in general, your experience will richer for it.
The characters sound like their original selves without becoming self-parodies. There are fresh takes on genre staples ranging from the ice planet Hoth to the Borg's rout of Starfleet at Wolf 359.
Worth seeing once for the action, and again to find more references to favorite scenes from other works.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
