I don't typically review movies online. But in the case of the King's Speech, I have made an exception. What an extraordinary surprise. I loved everything about this movie. Colin Firth's performance goes beyond winning an Oscar. He owned his character and brought a vulnerability to his role like none other. I consider this his finest performance to date. Sean Penn, Daniel Day-Lewis are probably the best actors in the world. But Firth's performance puts him right up there with the best.
Geoffrey Rush was nothing more than delightful and he and Firth had great chemistry. I didn't want the movie to be over. You can bet I will be seeing this one again and again.
Go see The King's Speech. It's one of the year's most delightful surprises. No big explosions, no 3D, no giant egos. Just a great movie, with great actors made by a fantastic team.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I did not fall in love with Avatar. I'd much rather see people interacting than "perceived" people generated by CGI (and let's face it that's the hype) Cameron is a novel film maker and I'm a huge fan of the original Terminator and Aliens 1 & 2. The story that drives Avatar seems second rate and a second thought. With all the bells and whistles you'd think the director would let the story shine with more imagination. As an African American I am pretty over the white guy saving the day (was there any plausible reason to give the Navi braids and make them sound afrocentric) Avatar is a thrill ride with a heartfelt message. I just wish the messenger was the same race as the Navi. Then maybe the movie wouldn't seem so self serving. B-
