Such tragedy is a subject that is human and complex, yet this version of Sebold's beautiful novel avoids ever developing a single human relationship from the book. The movie is flat and will disappoint most viewers -- especially fans of the novel. Spend your money on the novel.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
