The opera is one of my favorites so I have heard many versions and this cast can stand comparison with the best. Singing, and, yes, acting are exemplary. (Fleming's Marschallin is particularly special. The end of Act One can break your heart.) The playing of the orchestra and the conducting of de Waart is everything you could wish. The only negative was the actual experience. The screen was blocked four times during the performance by what looked like a computer program. The audience tried to get the projection room to fix it and all the yelling drowned out some of the singing. I would be leery of watching a Met broadcast at this theater again. Can't wait for the DVD, though.
