Since giving birth over 9 years ago, most of the movies I've been subjected to are 3D. Aside from the fact they do this to make extra dough and prevent people from video-taping it for internet pirates, it is usually completely unnecessary, not to mention I always leave with a headache which is no good for the marriage. Gulliver's Travels was no exception. The script was predictable but mediocre. If you are not a JB fan, then you really don't need to see this (or his voluptious body). I like him, but he did his usual schtick. It was better than a bikini wax, but not as good as an English Breakfast Latte at the Coffee Bean. If you need a diversion, fine, otherwise I recommend shopping at the after Xmas sales.
Not having seen any grown-up or childrens' movies in months, I agreed to see this one, if not for the mental break, then for the immitation butter flavoring. My husband, daughter and I were all pleasantly surprised at how much we thoroughly enjoyed the film. Beautiful songs, a few happy tears, and a good script, it was a great diversion. As with most 3D, it was completely unnecessary and underused and likely just a way to charge more money. Highly recommended for ages 9-49.
The only reason we went to this movie was to AVOID having to sit through Valentine's Day. My daughter's friend had already seen it and couldn't stop talking about it and her subsequent obsession with Greek Mythology. Hey, what's $48 (for 4 people) in a recession, not including the $40 bag of popcorn? Both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised that we actually enjoyed a kids' movie. After the Alvin and the Chipmunks Squeekwel (can I scream now?) I thought I'd never see another G movie again. This too-long-of-a-title-movie was an adventure, and also taught the viewer about the grumpy Greek Gods. My only bad comment is that they should have named it, The Lightening Thief and left it at that.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I really enjoyed the dysfunction of Bad's life. Why Maggie G fell in love with him while he blew second hand smoke in her face and belched whiskey and take out, is beyond me. She did a fine job being a doormat but I personally can't get past her nose and teeth. Loved Robert Duvall as a solid truth-telling friend. Wanted to go out and buy the music. BUT WHY the stylist didn't shave the back of Colin F's nappy neck-yeesh. DIDN'T like him at all. I would definitely recommend the movie. It'll make you realize how mentally healthy you really are.
