A spectacular production, beautifully sung by some of the best singers anywhere. At three hours without an intermission, this show is not for the faint hearted or the small bladdered. But it is thrilling, and a must for opera lovers. Those who do not like Wagner can test their dislike against a first class production. If they still don't like it, there is no hope.
The Mechano-style set worked well in the Rhine and Niebelheim scenes, but was too confining for the Valhalla scenes, where a broad panorama is needed to show the gods in their home above the clouds.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Met productions are spectacular and the singers are the best. This opera is a good example of less-frquently performed Verdi that should be seen more often.
Unfortunately, there were a large number of gaps in the sound which detracted from an otherwise great experience. The Met needs to get these technical glitches fixed if its HD program is to succeed long term.
