Fun, but not brilliant

Some reviewers wrote that the film is scary or more like a horror film. I completely disagree. I believe Tim Burton toned down his scariness for this movie. Unfortunately, Burton's strength is in horrific images. He never has images that are as creepy as say a Saw film or Rob Zombie, because he tends to have a vision that is full of playful, child-like horrors. Because he has this ability, I thought a film like Alice in Wonderland would be perfect for him. I was wrong. One thing that Burton always struggles with is telling a good story. Although he should have had the book to guide his storytelling, I questioned his ability to comprehend and analyze a truly fascinating tale. He should stick to making creepy images within a film and work with a talented screenwriter to provide the story.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
