If you've been waiting for this movie since you loved the fake Grindhouse trailer, it doesn't disappoint much. Danny Trejo is awesomely bad-ass. The film is set in some otherworld with the sensibilities of B-movie 1970's, with today's technology. The politics are NOT meant to be taken seriously. It's a fun, over the top, gory good time.
My 16 year old son & I were really looking forward to seeing this and it did not disappoint. The most ass-kicking action film I've ever seen. It could not have been better. Will definitely buy on DVD when it comes out and watch again.
As a fan of the original stories & Jeremy Brett's supreme performance in the Granada series, I thought the movie was very good. It is about the best you could expect for a mainstream, big budget Holmes movie. As a fan of Ritchie's films- this may have been his best. It's packed with suspenseful action. From the trailer, I was worried they would downplay Holmes's mental abilities in deduction, but was pleased to see there was plenty of that. I think Ritchie was right when he initially said to Downey (regarding playing Holmes,) "You're too old, mate." Also, I found the portrayal of Holmes & Watson just a bit too much like House & Wilson from Fox TV. The film was still very enjoyable and much better than I had expected.
