Ok, but not appropriate for young children

I took my 4 yr old daughter thinking that it would be similar to the other 2 Shrek movies. I knew it was rated PG, but was caught off guard by how adult "Shrek Forever After" seemed in comparison to the first two movies. The plot is very dark, and it has more "in your face" adult themes throughout the film. I felt it was not appropriate for a child her age at all. I will pay much more attention to movies with a PG rating in the future.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
