Great special effects certainly make any film more entertaining, but a tired, rehashed storyline is hard to overcome. For $300 million, Cameron should have gotten somebody to do a little more work on the script! If you ever saw the children's animated film, "Fern Gulley" you have seen this film with about an hour to spare. The well worn themes of "going native" and "nobility of savages" have been explored in hundreds of films from "Dancing with Wolves" to "The Last Samurai". Continuity errors were legion in this film--maybe post production was rushed to get it into theatres for Christmas.
In all fairness, the special effects were spectacular and the extra money to see it at an IMAX 3D theatre was well worth it.
