Once I figured out that the story was written from the present-day perspective for Watson, it made a little more sense that he and Sherlock were at odds, but really, there isn't that much in the books that would indicate the characters were so competitive. Too much gore, too little logic (it is there, but done too fast and most all related to fighting). Lovely camera work, great settings, costuming, etc., but I have to agree the story and plot were weak and almost seemed to be borrowing heavily from Dan Brown's work.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
