This is a must see movie. Crowe and Banks are excellent. I was drawn into the movie from the getgo and my attention was sustained throughout! This is definitely Oscar nomination material. One caution to those Neeson fans out there, be advised that despite his billing he gets all of 10 minutes on screen time early on in the movie and never puts in a re-appearance. Go see it, you will not be disappointed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Unlike many reviewers, I only know HP through the movies, never having read any of the books. So I cannot speak to the aspect that appears so important to so many reviewers, namely, how true the movie is or is not to the original. I will take the majority's word for the fact that the movie makers outdid themselves in this case with respect to the fidelity of this movie to the book. Overall, the movie was very well acted and the younger actors have clearly grown in skill as well as physically. The cinematography was excellent and visually the movie is wonderful with great special effects and on the eye candy rating scale is fully deserving of 5 stars especially in IMAX.. So given the fact that this movie is so faithful to the original any minor misgivings I have must be directed toward the storyline. It would be nice if HP and his friends did not seem so hopelessly outgunned by the forces of evil for almost the entire movie and it is a little depressing that the good guys keep taking one for the team while so little damage seems to be inflicted upon the cohorts of evil. So I guess that Part 2 will have to rectify all of that imbalance - a pretty daunting challenge for a 2 and a 1/2 hour finale movie. Nevertheless, I am clearly hooked and plan to be there for Part 2. Thereafter, inspired by the movie experience, I might even make a point of reading the books?
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Better than the original!

The original Wall Street move was both an icon but also a caricature. This sequel was a credible and worthy successor and painted a convincing picture of what had happened since the events of the original movie. This sequel felt more real than the original and in tune with what is happening in the financial sector these days. Michael Douglas has matured with age and so has his acting. Shia Labeouf and Javier Bardem make an attractive couple and actually engender feelings of great sympathy and compassion - not feelings that most Americans have for Wall Street types these days (for good reason)! Excellent cast, great supporting roles by Frank Langella and Eli Wallach and a nice cameo role from Charlie Sheehan. New York is the other character not named in the cast list and the way Stone portrays New York and its social and business life feels totally on the mark. Excellent cinematography. Only issue that I had was that the writers did not appear to be able to make up their minds whether Gecko was going to be the new voice of sanity or an egomaniac - a sociopath or an individual who had recovered his humanity and achieved redemption!!!! The movie ultimately did not quite convince me on this point. Although, it is conceivable the writers were seeking to explore these inconsistencies. Also I have a pet peeve with movies that roll the opening credits ten minutes or so after a movie starts and where these feel like they are going on for ever when you want to give your full concentration to the movie - very disruptive and takes a while for one to settle down again and regain focus. So I docked one star for these last two (in my opinion) flaws.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
