Disappointing

I'd read the positive reviews and Oscar hype. The film did not deliver, and is certainly not Oscar-worthy.
Film was competently acted and the special effects were stunning. Hence my three stars, as opposed to the one or two I would have given it.
Story line was utterly unoriginal, with no redeeming sophistication of plot or character development. It repeats every cliche of every B-Western ever made. Hats all-white or all-black. No gray, no nuance.
Avatar unfortunately repeats the worst of Star Trek’s "message episodes." Even with all of that virgin timber on planet Pandora, the director evidently could not obtain enough 2-by-4's with which to whack the viewer over the head, to ensure the message was not missed.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
