A standard story of callous imperialism triumphed by "humanity". Seen it over and over --- Last of the Mohicans, Dances with Wolves, District 9 . Still, AVATAR was spectacular, well-conceived and deeply moving. Sure the characters were so clearly stereotypical that black and white hats were not needed. Still, with Iraq and Afghanistan raging, and our trampling of the Native American culture a national disgrace - I found it deeply resonant. There was no subtlety. And yet, I have recommended this film to all of my friends. The technological advances in the making of this film did not overwhelm the story. Visually stunning and gorgeous -- colorful -- ALIVE! The 3-D enhanced the movie viewing but was secondary.
