Over-hyped and not true to character

While Downey and Jude are good actors, I found the film a disappointing attempt to turn classic characters into caricatures for the sake of appealing to the demographic that wants high action adventure, multiple fight scenes, explosives and blood and gore. The occasional pithy dialog and deductions by Holmes were the most enjoyable part of the movie The movie was sometimes hard to follow and the revelations at the last two minutes of the movie were knock-offs of two much better period pieces "The Illusionist" and "The Prestige." I am sure there will be a sequel, but as to this one, wait for the dvd to come out.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
