Dances with Wolves meets Apocalypse Now

Not quite mindless entertainment, but no plot or theme surprises. You've seen the story before. It's very reminiscent of Terrence Malick's "The New World," itself a visually lush film. Worth the ticket price for the entertainment value and the visual beauty of the film, but it's not going to make Cameron king of the world again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
