Special effects were great! The movie? Boring and banal. The most formulaic, unimaginative story ever told, and told, and told. You've seen it dozens of times. Good guys vs. bad guys, heir to the chief vs. outsider, outsider gets girl. Na'vi's are a cross between Native American and African tribes, "creatures" are analogs for earthly animals. Na'vi's are just big blue-striped humans with cat-like features.
Once you get used to the terrific special effects, after about an hour, it's a slog through a predictable tale that ends with the good guys beating the bad guys in an all out war spectacular. A movie for 14-year old boys.
