This movie was bad on many levels, but let's start with the one they got right: The bible (religion in general) is a very dangerous tool when used as a weapon. I think that's a great message, but in a movie that doesn't care, it is lost. The "fresh from the mall" version of Mila Kunis didn't work at all and Denzel's recycled John Q (or Training Day...) only worked because, hey, it's Denzel. I usually love these actors. Also, why were all the post-apocalyptic cars from the 90's? Bad acting, bad tech, bad continuity and a botched, preachy message killed this movie for me. On a side note, I was appalled that people brought their children (all ages) to an R rated movie with profanity and serious violence against women. What is THAT about?
I am afficionado of Cameron, so I can forgive a lot for the amazing special effects in "Avatar", which are absolutely mind-bending! I saw the regular and 3D prints and plan to see the IMAX 3D print ASAP. I've never done that before. Cameron has developed a groundbreaking new method of story-telling. BUT, "Aliens" had better hardware in 1986. The plot of this movie was too political, which, while I agree with the perspective, would have served the movie better if it were more subtle. While the profanity, provided realism, it seemed unnecessary. Finally, the Na'vi had not a sag or a droop among them! Must be the reduced gravity because it belies every National Geographic article on aboriginals I have ever seen. Still, GO SEE THIS THING! WOW!
