Best Christmas movie in recent memory.

This was really an amazing movie on a variety of levels. The story was original and inventive...quite an accomplishment given the sheer volume of stuff on ol' Santa. The animation was brilliant...check out the detail on Arthur's sweater during his close-up early in the movie. It was very well written...the story was conveyed in a manner that kept viewers of all ages engaged. I had read the reviews, setting up high expectations (usually a recipe for disaster), and the movie delivered. This will be a classic Christmas movie for decades to come. It also had a really genuine message about family dynamics and the gaps between generations.
Anyone who rated this movie one or two stars should be ignored. Ignorance is everywhere. It is true that the youngest viewers might occasionally lose interest, but that is the price to be paid for weaving a story with depth. Heaven forbid your children learn there is something to enjoy that doesn't explode or taste like sugar. I didn't give it a fifth star because I reserve that for movies I feel are truly sensational. This one fell just short of that mark, but for a holiday film, it came as close as can be expected. My money was well spent.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My expectations for this movie were not particularly high given the track record of this character in movies (made-for-tv and otherwise). I was pleasantly and completely surprised.
First, let me say I am a lifelong Marvel comics fan, and have been since I picked up my first Marvel comic (an issue of Captain America for which, as memory serves, I paid a whopping 15 cents). For those who suggest the makers of this film were not faithful to the character, I can only say they could not be more wrong. Do your research, folks.
This was quite simply a great superhero movie (second only, in my opinion, to the first Iron Man). It was a well-written rendition of Cap's origin, and it was very true to those old Captain America comics. Jack Kirby would have been very pleased.
Maybe most importantly, this was a great movie...period. It was a fabulous period flick, and it reminded me a great deal of those old classic war films of the fifties and sixties (but done with all the flair of modern effects). The sound-track, particularly the original songs, was a perfect accent, and I found myself completely immersed in the 1940's environment.
The casting was also superb. It is a rare moment when I leave a movie without the phrase "they shoulda' used (fill in actor here) instead" rolling off my lips, but this was one of them.
Anyway, if you are a fan (a "true believer," in the immortal words of Stan Lee...great cameo by the way!) of Marvel Comics...see this movie. If you a are a fan of classic movie-making done right....see this movie. Either way (or both) you will be pleased.
Excelsior!!

This is the M. Night his fans know and love: a suspense story that keeps you engaged from start to finish with a clever twist at the end. I typically have these things solved by the end of the opening credits, but in this case I was distracted enough by the plot elements that I didn't see it coming. I was ashamed of myself afterward. In that respect, it reminded me a good deal of Sixth Sense, and although it didn't quite reach the high level established by that movie, this was as close as he's come in a long while. Anyone who rated this movie below three stars is simply a hater and anyone reading these reviews should disregard their opinions. If you enjoyed Sixth Sense, this movie is well worth your dollar.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Predictable but entertaining

Unfortunately, I had the end figured out before the lead characters got off the ferry at the start of the movie. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the mystery had been a little less obvious. It was still a good movie and worth the money. My wife enjoyed it very much (she wasn't as quick to catch on).

This is easily the most visually astonishing film ever made. While the story elements are predictable, they are masterfully sewn together. As a result, although I knew what was going to happen next, I was still floored by the execution. I am sure a few people will be put off by the political/ environmental/ global warming undertones, but while they were certainly present, they were not rammed down your throat. It is not even all of mankind that was the enemy, just that "evil corporation" that represents the worst in us. If you are a science fiction fan, you must not miss this movie. Oh heck...you must not miss this movie regardless of who you are. It is cinema at its best.
