The flashbacks in the first 10 minutes sets the stage for a story that changes by the scene. Yes, there are re-makes of other story lines, but who cares? Add the special effects and a cast that clicks on screen -- now that's a great combination.
I could have done without Sigourney Weaver lighting up a smoke...I thought smoking on screen went out with I Love Lucy. Did they somehow conquer lung disease in the 22nd century, making smoking a cool thing again? Don't think so.
Arguably one of the best movies I've ever seen. The 3D experience was awesome, but great movies aren't made because they are 3D. The directing, plot, screen play, etc. is what made Avatar a home run in my book. A truly unique move experience.
