This movie was mildly entertaining, but I expect more from superstars like Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. They are both likeable and enjoyable to watch, but the movie was just okay. It won't win any awards and is very forgettable. Don't go expecting another "Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail," or "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" or you will be disappointed.
I am surprised at the people calling this movie "laugh out loud funny." For a romantic comedy, Larry Crowne was neither particularly romantic nor funny. True, there weren't many things that viewers would find objectionable, but it takes more than that to make a good movie.
With all the talented people involved in Larry Crowne, it could have been a LOT better. The relationship between Hanks and Roberts had chemistry, but no substance. You expect them to get together because that's how romantic comedies end, not because their relationship is building towards that. I was also hoping to see Larry succeed after all the losses he experiences, but the movie ends somewhat abruptly before he really has a chance.
Hopefully Tom Hanks' next endeavor will deliver more than star power and mediocrity to his many fans.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed "The Blind Side" and would definitely watch it again. It's a touching story that has little to do with football and more to do with the love, compassion, and open arms that one family extends to a young man who was never given a chance. This is an incredible true story that is both sobering and heart warming. Sandra Bullock and the whole cast did an excellent job!
