Remake or not, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Jeff Bridges is simply superb, the other stars and supporting cast are spot-on. Excellent cinematography and production values. The Coens' script is crisp and smart. The film seems to go by much faster than its running time, which is always a good thing. My only quibble is with quite a bit of the dialogue, especially from Jeff Bridges, that's hard to understand, and honestly, it's not very important. The film is a visual feast, and the story would probably be told well if you watched with no audio. I happily give this five stars.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Excellent Entertainment, if close to mindless.

I don't think a quarter of a billion dollars could buy a much-more visually impressive film. The screenplay couldn't be more cliche, but it doesn't matter much. It works. In my opinion, the 3D effects matter less and less as the film goes on. Ultimately you stop seeing the 3D. I am sure I will enjoy this in 2D as well. A good movie remains a good movie no matter how you watch it. I am downgrading my rating to 4.5 out of 5, however because of the script.
Smart storytelling and excellent acting add up to an entertaining and thought-provoking experience. And without bang-zoom special effects. Imagine that!
