I agree with other reviewers that Tim McGraw does an excellent job and would argue that the real show-stealer was Garrett Hedlund as Beau---he has an amazing voice and doesn't overdo it with his dramatic scenes. Not a big fan of Leighton Meester but she's okay. There is a bit of a surprise ending and the storyline isn't as predictable as I'd thought it would be so overall, entertaining and worth the price of a theater ticket.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This movie is excessively sad---from beginning to end, it is very dark. Good enough story, however, to sit through and check out Robert Pattinson. His acting is very good in the movie and the other characters are well-portrayed as well. I would say wait for DVD unless you're paying matinee prices.
