Story Stolen but Still a Steal

'Real Steel' is a robotic remake of "Over the Top", right down to another Stallone reference when a robot version of Mr. T beats down Jackman's 1st robot. Hugh Jackman plays, Charlie, an absentee, deadbeat, has-been boxer, suddenly stuck with his son, Max, after the boy's mother dies. Rich relatives want Max enough to pay for him, and Charlie is low enough to sell the boy in order to buy a shiny new boxing robot. Of course that robot is also defeated and Charlie's future rest in the hands of his young son and a robot the boy dug out of the junkyard.
Jackman is prettier than Stallone, Dakota Goyo (Max) dances his way into your heart, and Atom the robot is a real steal; by the end of the movie you'll actually start thinking of him as real.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As much as I loved the movie I was disappointed. It was a mistake to change directors. Chris Weitz is a fine director but he took the story to the masculine side, with too much emphasis on the action and special effects, losing the heart of the story and the heart of the relationships. Catherine Hardwicke had a much better feel for the story, the characters, and the audience.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
