The opening music and video was really neat. I thought Noomi Rapace was a much stronger Lisbeth than Mara. Mara comes across as nonconfrontational, with eyes downcast a lot. Noomi's facial expressions showed her disdain and seething anger. The Swedish Bjurman character was also much more sinister or creepy looking in some way. The film does have a fairly fast pace and many of the sets are similar. There is some obvious Hollywood glamour in the sets (the carpenter's wife's home) and clothing (esp Daniel Craig). Didn't like how they changed the Anita storyline. Why change that? A few other deviations that seemed unnecessary. Investigative collaboration between Salandar & Mikele was also better in Swedish version. American version they were too independent.
Meyer is the Jane Austen of our time. She does an excellent job of bringing you in to the story & the characters. The movies fall short. Each book should be two movies. The first movie moved too quickly over the falling in love between Bella & Edward. The second movie doesn't have as many changes from the book but still leaves out quite a bit. If you have not read the book series then it will be hard for you to make the leaps in the relationships. A lot of Bella's character is her wanting to protect and take care of those she loves - ie cooking for her dad every night - those traits which define who she is are left out of the movies. The wigs are HORRIBLE - Jasper, Rosalie & Alice. It seems minor but it the hair is so bad & obviously fake.
