Visually stunning and compelling; and obscurely elegant. It was more motion-art then "movie." Add to that Johnny Depp's performance, and the movie was outstanding.
It's not your typical "Disney" film; and I hope parents are aware of that before they drag along the impressionable smaller children.
I don't believe 3D adds that much of an "enhancement" to the entertainment value of this film; unlike AVATAR which was crap without the technology.
