Precious is smart, thought-evoking, and powerful story brought to life by it the director and cast. This is cinematic storytelling at is best. The director, Lee Daniels, doesn't waste the audience's time with gimmicky plot devises but takes us on an intimate journey of self-discovery and empowerment through the eyes of the protagonist. Daniels respect for the story, the actors and the audience is evident in his realistic, insightful, and unapologetic storytelling. His characterizations are compact and poignant. Even the movie’s most unsympathetic character’s quest for redemption receives the audiences’ undivided attention as we view the broken vessel unravel. This movie is for mature audiences because of its subject matter.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
