Relax.... it's just a movie about someone's imagined world-ending scenario.
Sub-plots? ahhh... acting... hum...
I'd say the main reason people go to see movies like 2012 is because:
1) There is always someone out there that will find ways to exploit the fears of the masses, hence, this movie.
2) Special effects. C'mon, it's the end of the world, Ok? What did you expect, people sailing happily into the sunset?

At least I find some comfort knowing that the Lakers are the first ones to go down. :)
See it for what it is: another way to waste your time, not that we are lacking in entertainment options these days.
I give this movie four popcorns because it is not an Oscar-worthy movie but it is exactly what I expected it to be.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
